Criminal Law

Sept. 22, 2020

Over the course of my career, I have handled almost every type of criminal law case imaginable. I handled a capital punishment murder trial which resulted in an acquittal.

Recently, I handled an aggravated assault case and a second degree theft case.

While it is obviously strongly advised to avoid criminal activity, there are certain actions that a party can take in the event of criminal charges that are strongly recommended. There is tremendous discretion in the criminal justice system beginning with the arresting police officer and continuing all through the process up to and including the sentencing Judge. Due to the fact that the people involved in the criminal justice system have such discretion as to how they want to handle each individual case, it is strongly recommended a defendant be cooperative as possible throughout the process. It is strongly recommended that a defendant contact a good criminal attorney as soon as possible.

It is strongly recommended that a criminal defendant heed the Miranda warnings given at the time of arrest and not make any statements without the involvement of a legal defense counsel, It is strongly recommended that a person involved in any alleged criminal activity not speak to anyone else regarding the matter besides their attorney.

I, find that, for the most part, the people involved in the criminal justice system from the arresting police officer up to and including the sentencing Judge are good, intelligent and compassionate people who will help an individual charged with a crime if they are contrite and cooperative.
